High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo has sentenced 62-year-old Navua businessman Govind Sami to 9 years imprisonment.

Sami was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of indecently annoying a person.

Justice Temo sentenced Sami to 9 years imprisonment each for the two counts of rape and 9 months imprisonment for the count of indecently annoying a person.

 

Justice Temo ruled that the sentence be carried out concurrently.

Sami raped a woman who worked for him, on two occasions and also indecently annoyed her between 1st July 2014 and 29th October 2016.

While delivering the sentence Justice Temo says there was a serious breach of employer authority.

The victim and her husband used to stay at Sami's farmhouse in Navua.

The non‑parole period is 8 years.
