Applications for countries bidding to host a tournament in the 2019-2020 World Sevens Series closed yesterday and Fiji is one of the nineteen countries that is looking to get the chance of hosting a tournament.
Fiji has submitted its bid and has made sure that it has complied with all the necessary requirements.
The Fiji Rugby Union says it plans to make public the details of the FRU Bid submission at the Fiji Rugby Awards Dinner next Friday.
Brian Thorburn who is one of the executives leading the bid task team told ABC’s Pacific Beat that Fiji’s in with a good chance for the World Rugby Sevens bid.
A decision from World Rugby is expected by 28th June this year.
Fiji will join Australia and New Zealand who already host a leg of the World Series if the bid is successful.
World Rugby representatives had a two day visit to Fiji last month where they inspected venues, hotels and other facilities under consideration by the Fiji Rugby Union as part of its bid for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
Meanwhile, Fiji will play Russia in their first pool match of the Las Vegas 7s at 12.06pm this Saturday and we take on France at 3.07pm, Fiji then play their final pool match against Kenya at 8.36am Sunday.
The Cup quarters start at 1.26pm this Sunday, the Cup semis will be held at 9.12am next Monday while the Cup final will kick off at 12.30pm Monday.
