Ma'a Nonu is leaving French giants Toulon and taking time out to assess his rugby future.
The double World Cup winner confirmed his intentions today.
The 36‑year‑old midfield back said in a post on his Instagram account that he has decided to take a step back from rugby to spend time with his family and assess his options for the future.
Toulon released a statement on their website this morning, saying Toulon warmly thanks Ma'a Nonu for his involvement and commitment during his three seasons and wishes him and his family the best moving forward.
Nonu joined Toulon after winning the 2015 Rugby World Cup with New Zealand.
Nonu took his time to find form in the French game but went on to be a key player in the talent‑stacked Toulon outfit. He played 77 games for Toulon and there was wide speculation he would extend his contract for a further season.
