The Crusaders consolidated their position at the top of the Super Rugby standings when they beat the Chiefs 34‑20 in their New Zealand derby in Hamilton last night.
As expected, this was an entertaining affair with plenty of end‑to‑end action and although the Chiefs were competitive throughout, the Crusaders got the rub of the green in the end as they outscored their hosts four tries to three.
The win is the Crusaders’ tenth successive one and gives them a nine‑point lead at the top of the New Zealand Conference while the Chiefs are now in fourth spot, 12 points adrift of the defending champions.
Crusaders tries came from Heiden Bedwell‑Curtis, Matt Todd, George Bridge and Luke Romano while Sean Wainui and Luke Jacobson scored for the Chiefs.
Meanwhile other matches, the Rebels strengthened their Super Rugby play‑off hopes when they claimed a deserved 20‑10 win over the Blues in Auckland while the Waratahs beat the Reds 52-41.
