SODELPA’s parlimentarian Mikaele Leawere claims that he was misquoted saying that of the 20-cents plastic levy, 10 cents goes to the Prime Minister and another 10 cents to the Attorney General.
Leawere has denied making that insinuation and has stated that he holds the person who insinuated that rumor-mongering responsible for sowing the seeds of discord between him and Prime Minister and Attorney General which got flared up because of their political affiliations.
Leawere has also stated in Parliament that teacher unions and their members are concerned about the intervention of the Fijian Elections Office in union elections.
Leawere also claimed that teachers are gravely concerned about the secrecy in which the Human Resource Unit at the Ministry of Education processes the Open Merit Recruitment System which has resulted in irregular appointments, unfair human resource distribution and teachers toiling under an unsecured atmosphere.
He says that there needs to be transparency and clean up of this Unit in the Ministry of Education.
Leawere has supported the motion moved by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama to thank the President for his speech in Parliament.
