The Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, Nesbitt Hazelman says that he has not been formally informed by the Fiji Trades Union Congress on the nationwide protest planned to take place next Friday.
Hazelman says it is the worker’s right to protest adding that none of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation members from the private sector have indicated that they will take part in the protest.
He says that the Federation would always support dialogue within the parties and it believes they have made significant progress in addressing issues in relation to the joint implementation report.
The Government, the Fiji Trades Union Congress and the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation had signed and submitted the report International Labour Organisation.
Hazelman says the Federation would like to see that all parties show some level of goodwill when dealing with each other adding that protests do not achieve anything as it only hardens people’s positions.
The CEO says that he expects trade union leaders in those industries that impact their members to be mindful of any adverse impacts of their actions.
There are currently 500 members in the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation who represent 80,000 workers in the private sector.
