Springboks Sevens team coach Paul Treu said star playmaker Cecil Afrika’s return will be a major boost at the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens this weekend.
The South Africans were without Afrika in this past weekend’s Dubai leg of the Sevens World Series after he injured his ribs at the Gold Coast tournament in Australia the previous week.
But Afrika is expected to be back this weekend when the Sevens World Series heads to South Africa, with Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium playing host to the event.
And coach Treu admitted Afrika will provide a much needed spark that was lacking in Dubai.
The South Africans were drawn in Pool C with Australia, Canada and Kenya.
Meanwhile, Fiji will play Portugal at 10.37pm this Friday in their first pool match, then they will play Zimbabwe at 1.43am Saturday and the last pool match is against Wales at 6.32am.
The Cup quarterfinals start at 11.44pm Saturday while the Cup semifinals start at 3.59am Sunday.
The Cup final will kick off at 6.40am Sunday.
