Five schools in the Nasese area will today be part of a School Tsunami Drill that will be conducted by the National Disaster Management Office.
The schools identified to be part of the School Tsunami Drill are Suva Grammar School, Veiuto Primary School, Stella Maris Primary School, Sacred Heart College and Draiba Primary School.
National Disaster Management Office Director, Anare Leweniqila has confirmed that the School Tsunami Drill scheduled for today from 11.30am to 12.30pm is to check on the operational readiness of the government agencies that are responsible for an emergency operation.
He adds that this is also to check on the operational readiness of the schools that have been identified to ensure that their response plans are updated based on the need for an evacuation.
Leweniqila says that there will also be drill umpires who will assess the government response agencies and schools involved on the effectiveness of the drill.
He says that the lessons learnt will help improve the documentation of the order of instruction on how the School Tsunami Drills are to be carried out before they roll it out to other schools around the country.
