Many are quick to talk about the 1987 coup but fail to acknowledge that the Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka returned executive power to the President for the installation of a civilian government six months after the events of 14th May 1987.

This was highlighted in Parliament by SODELPA parliamentarian Adi Litia Qionibaravi.

Qionibaravi says that Rabuka did not hold on to power and pay himself and his interim cabinet secret salaries.

She says that it is pertinent to remind the people that the decision of the Fiji Court of Appeal on the 1997 constitution continues pending implementation.

Qionibaravi says that the Opposition Leader led the rescue of the National Bank of Fiji.

The SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka had earlier told LegendFM News that he does not know whether taxpayers are still paying the loans taken by the SVT government to bail out NBF.

The Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum had also stated in his 2018/2019 budget response that almost $1 billion has been spent on the NBF disaster and taxpayers continue to pay for the loan with interest taken by Rabuka’s government.
