The Suva Magistrates Court has convicted a man who posed as a police officer to obtain money in 2015.

Binesh Pillay was charged by FICAC with one count each of Obtaining a Financial Advantage by Deception and False or Misleading Information.

Pillay pretended to be a police officer at the Valelevu Police Station and obtained $300 after promising to assist in releasing an inmate from the Suva Remand Centre.

He also then provided a false residential address to a court officer while the court officer was filling out Pillay’s bail undertaking form.

He has been remanded in custody and the case will be called again on the 11th of next month.
