Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has officially opened the Navala Grid Extension which will benefit the lives of over 600 people in Navala, Ba.

While officially opening the Grid Extension in Navala today, Bainimarama highlighted that over the past five years his government has given funding of over 224 million dollars towards the energy sector.

He says this is a historic amount of funding, and 70 cents of every dollar spent has gone directly to funding rural electrification where over 25,000 Fijian families have felt the benefits of that development.

Bainimarama adds that his government has shouldered the entire $650,000 cost of the project in Navala, sparing the community from any financial contribution.

The Prime Minister says that every Fijian deserves to share in the life‑changing benefits that electricity provides.

He says that access to electricity spans the difference between a dark and uncertain tomorrow and a bright, prosperous and promising future.

Bainimarama also stresses that Energy Fiji Limited is spearheading one of his government’s most important commitments, that is to secure a sustainable future, by lighting the way forward to generate 100% of energy from clean, renewable sources by 2036.
