Works to clean and de-silt the Wainibuku Creek in Nakasi will commence next week.
This was confirmed by Ministry of Waterways Director Operations Mahendra Kumar who says their officers have already visited the site for preliminary investigations.
This comes after the Shop N Save Supermarket in Rups Complex Nakasi, which is situated next to the creek, had ankle deep water during a recent heavy downpour.
Nausori Town Council Acting CEO Deo Narayan says the creek needs to be de-silted as it becomes waterlogged during heavy rain and high tide which prevents the flow of water resulting in flooding.
