The Fiji Roads Authority will review and prioritize its footpath renewal programme to be able to go in line with their program budget for footpath construction.
Fiji Roads Authority CEO John Hutchinson says they will be prioritizing footpath upgrading to help determine the immediacy of upgrading for footpaths.
This is following concerns raised by the Association of Consulting Surveyors regarding the level of some footpaths in the country that are constructed at the same level as the roads.
Hutchinson says the reason for the footpaths being built at the same level was to act as a cost saving measure that was undertaken by the Local Government Authorities.
He adds that some motorists have taken advantage of the demarcated footpath and are using the area as a roadway.
When asked by Fijivillage if they will be rectifying this issue, Hutchinson says they are currently improving a total of 20 sites around the country and will prioritize the immediacy of each project.
Meanwhile Hutchinson says that motorists have a responsibility to be courteous and respectful of other road users especially pedestrians.
