Great Britain beat Kenya 31-7 and then narrowly beat Japan 21-19.

New Zealand lost Sonny Bill Williams through injury in the first game.

New Zealand coach Gordon Tietjens says it is devastating to lose Sonny Bill Williams and Joe Webber as they are influential players.

Tietjens says Sonny Bill is a great professional, he is very infectious, he certainly helps the younger players and has a great work ethic.

Tietjens says it is a shame as he has understood the game of sevens so well.

The Australian sevens team has also lost star playmaker Lewis Holland and he has been replaced by Tom Kingston in the squad.

Australian Sevens captain Ed Jenkins has rated his side=s Olympic debut as one of their most disappointing days, with the side left fighting for a quarter‑final berth.
Jenkins was not shirking away from a mixed opening day of results, in which Australia lost to France 31‑14 and beat Spain 24‑12.
