American swimmer Michael Phelps has won his 21st gold medal at the Olympics.

He won gold in the 200m Butterfly and 4 x 200m freestyle relay event this afternoon.

He is the most decorated Olympian of all time and overall Phelps has won 25 medals at five Olympic games, as he came out of retirement in 2014 after retiring in 2012.

He will also compete in the Men’s 200m individual medley and Men's 100m butterfly.

Looking at the official medal tally, USA is now leading the with 9 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze while China is in second place with 8 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze.
