After recording two wins on Day 1 of the Rio Olympics men's 7s competition, Fiji is now on a mission to beat USA in it's final pool match tomorrow morning to top their pool and meet the lowest quarter final qualifier.

The Fiji 7s team is through to the Medal Quarter Final  competition after beating Argentina 21-14 in their second pool match.

Argentina pressured Fiji throughout the match however Kitione Taliga saved the day for Fiji as he scored two brilliant tries.

Taliga came on as a replacement after an injury to Samisoni Viriviri.

Fiji hitman, Josua Tuisova scored the first try for Fiji however Argentina hit back before half time to level the score 7-all.

Argentina took the lead in the second minute of the second half with a converted try.

Taliga then came on and scored two tries in two minutes to get Fiji ahead to 21-14.

Argentina tried to hit back but a brilliant tackle by Jerry Tuwai in the final second of play denied the Argentinians the comeback they needed.

Fiji earlier beat Brazil 40-12.

Fiji, South Africa and Great Britain finished as the only unbeaten teams on Day One.

With only three teams unbeaten and guaranteed places in the quarter finals, other quarter‑final places are still up for grabs and will be determined after the final round of pool matches tomorrow morning.

The report on Samisoni Viriviri's condition will be known tonight following his ankle injury in the second pool match.

The 13th player waiting outside the Olympic Games village, Masivesi Dakuwaqa will get a call up if Viriviri is ruled out.

The last round of pool matches starts at 2am tomorrow with some big match‑ups, including Great Britain against New Zealand at 3.30am, South Africa against Australia at 2.30am, Kenya against Japan at 3am while Fiji will meet USA at 4.30am in the last pool game.

The top two teams from each of the three pools progress to the quarter‑finals along with the two best third‑placed teams.

The quarterfinals will be held at 8am tomorrow, the semifinals will be at 5.30am Friday while the final will be at 10am Friday.

Meanwhile, thousands of people woke up early today to watch Fiji's first match.

We caught up with some of the Fiji fans who are confident that Fiji can win gold.

The Fiji men's 7s team is the top seed in Rio. If they do win the gold medal then they will be the first country to win an Olympic gold for Fiji and the Pacific.
Tongan boxer, Paea Wolfgramm won the Pacific's first medal back in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 when he settled for silver after losing to Wladimir Klitschko in the final.
